School

So now having gotten the syllabus' for all of my classes i can fully comment on the education system of the UK. well not really but i'm gonna anyways. I'm still in shock as to how diffent way to teaching and just being a student in general is in the UK. Back home isa lot more structured and there is constant assesment and projects to get done. Here the majority of classes are assed through 2 things, course work and the final exam. the course work is generally one or two essays. so for the majority of my classes i have to write an essay, and do final. thats it. and for one course, i only have an essay. my entire grade depends soley on how well i do on this one specific essay! i'm still unsure as to whethere or not this is a good thing. we'll see how my marks turn out.
i plan to get started on some of the course reading tomorrow, but i have to choose which readings i want to do because they give out lists of "required reading" that are at least a hundred (that is no exageration!) different sources in total, and we are supposed to pick and choose which ones we like the best and read them! it is supposed to help students become independant learners. so i guess the theme of this semester is Independance. well fair enough. i'm up for the challenge. but independance will start tomorrow as tonight i drink and eat curry.
ps. i really hate how i started this blog back in alberta and the posting time is always set to albertain time. so i'm writing this thing at 5;38 and it says 9:38!
